Annie
By KittyRomeo
Annie, as you can see, is one of the tough, surly and unruly barn cats that I watch out for. Obviously, these felines are fearful and detest the soft life of the indoor cat. This shot is Annie's first night with us, you can tell that she hates being with us and can't wait to go back to her mousing duties.
I was watching my cat Lizzy inter-react with Annie pretty closely. Lizzy still remembers the scent of the barn and will lay with our barn boots or sometimes sleep on a barn shirt in the dirty laundry. Annie use to beat the snot out of Lizzy when she was small, so I wondered if she would remember. I don't think so, they have been very peaceful.
Bob was the only one to have any real hang-ups over Annie, but I wondered if it wasn't because we have at least two of every kind of cat, but only one black one -- Bob. He really stands out here! This is the first time he has ever seen another black or nearly all black cat in his life, and the only time Bob has thrown a fit over a foster cat. You can see it in his face here, the set of the ears and the whiskers, he is NOT pleased!
Everyone falls in love with Annie! She is still a barn cat because there were several people talking about taking her and so much disappointment at the idea of her leaving that it was agreed she would stay so everyone would be happy. I'm under threat of bodily harm if she isn't returned Nov 1st! Her job at the farm is to give everyone touches and love -- and she is very good at it!
She does like it indoors, but not the crew here, too much activity! She has been really good, and purrs alot, rubbing her cheeks everywhere EXCEPT on the really bright sunny afternoons we've had, then she sits by the patio door and stares out like she would rather pick her own spot to enjoy it all. But she was very unhappy last winter in the barn; she is the reason there are now a couple of different kitty beds in the barn for them.
It was agreed that she wouldn't be taken by anyone because everyone loves her so much, but today I found out that the woman who struggled the most over not taking her just lost her 17-year-old cat over the bridge. Personally I 'm hoping this woman is ready for another kitty love because Annie would do really well in her home. I'm thinking Annie's vet records would make a nice early Christmas gift for her, just to let her know that we understand and could part with Annie if it would make her happy. Annie also adores this woman, and she wouldn't have to share her with umpteen other cats.
