Dodie
By SebAbbyJack

Dorothy Madeleine was born August 18, 1999. She was one of six kittens born in my garage to a feral cat, Lola. I tried to make sure that whenever Lola wasn't around, I touched the kittens as much as possible. Every time I did, Lola would move them to a new hiding place among the unpacked boxes and workbench clutter. Finally, when the kittens were four weeks old, I touched them too long. I had had them in the house and played with them for over an hour. That night Lola moved them completely out of my garage. All except for Dorothy's sister, Abigail.

Almost a week later, Lola brought the kittens back. I had been bottle feeding Abigail all that time. I figured it was "now or never" and nabbed the kittens before they became fearful of humans. I brought the kittens inside, except the runt, who died soon after Lola's return. The kittens were able to use a litter box and lap. I fixed up a nursery for them to thrive in. I was supposed to find homes for all but one kitten, but ended up keeping four!

Dorothy is affectionately called Dodie by all who love her. Dodie is the "lead" cat here. She is demanding of affection, protective of her siblings and is the first to make visitors know they are not welcome. She growls the entire time anyone comes over to visit.

Dodie is hopelessly drawn to the computer screen. She will sit next to the monitor as I type or "surf" and watch the words form on the screen or she will watch the cursor patiently. Finally, temptation will take over and she ill paw at the screen to try to catch the cursor. She makes me laugh every day!

Several weeks ago Dodie and Abby were adopted by a new family and moved up the California coast. They have both adjusted nicely to their new home. Dodie is still interested in the computer and helps her new mom chat and surf the web. Here are a few words on Dodie and Abby from their new mom.

In her new home Dodie also established herself as "lead cat" and is very protective of her sister Abby. She now welcomes visitors with nary a growl. She is great with all the cats that I had before (including a 3-year-old Siamese tortie...Pepper... with an attitude...who she dominates, but fairly, an 18-year-old cat...Casey... who she leaves alone, and Romeo, who she plays with but also knows when to leave him alone).

She and Abby sleep with us at night along with two of the other three and, yes she still is VERY interested in the computer!

Condensed...she is WONDERFUL!
